Scott's 1st Christmas with Black Hills Energy
This story will definitely be a memorable Christmas Party for us to remember. Scott started a new job in September with a business named Aquila and now known as Black Hills Energy. Their Christmas party was Saturday in Dubuque at Bricktown Brewery. We watched the weather and made the decision to go ahead, since at the time of travel it was fine. We were having a good time and meeting new people, when they made the announcement that the place was closing their business downstairs due to the poor weather conditions outside, but the party was more than welcome to continue on. I'm sure it was a picture moment, when Scott and I looked at each other wondering what the heck we got ourselves into. The main business man(Mark) of the company came over to talk to us and another couple whom was also about 45 minutes from home and shared his concern that our safety was very important and that if traveling was unsafe to get a hotel and the company would be happy to take care of the expense. I was just impressed that first of all he acknowledge the value of our lives, let alone the offer in helping with the hotel. Scott and I felt we would try to attempt in going home. We came out of the resturant and about found oursleves on the ground because it was sooo slippery. We proceeded in traveling and found the traveling wasnt safe, so we decided to get a hotel room. The time frame is 10 pm, so knowing that we were going to stay in Dubuque we thought we would run into Target and get some PJ's due to no extra clothing. We get to Target and they are closed, so we thought maybe Hy-Vee might sell a t-shirt of some kind well.....no luck unless you needed a gloves and mittens! So we got a pop and a bag of chips instead! Well needles to say we had to make what clothing we had on work. I really can't say that was the worst part of our trip. It was when talking to our 2 boys and telling them we wouldn't be home, because it was to dangerous and they were crying so hard that we couldn't understand them. This was the first time they had to stay over night with my parents. Leah was already staying at a friends, so no concern on her part. We made it home late (sunday) morning and the everyone was glad to see each other. We laugh now, but it wasn't so funny at first!
